Under the Willow

Architectural Design Studio  |  Chaoyang University of Technology  |  Winter 2018

The weeping willow was originally planted by the local river, but it was removed because it was an exotic species. This willow was imported from Taiwan during the colonial period, carrying significant historical importance. It not only represents a piece of history but also symbolizes the process of cultural exchange.

Inspired by the characteristics of the weeping willow, I incorporated its essence into my interior design concept. The graceful drooping form and flexible branches of the willow sparked my creativity. I designed structures using rod-like elements to represent the drooping state of the willow roots. This design not only mimics the appearance of the weeping willow but also conveys harmony between the natural and built environments. Through this design, I aim to create a space that is visually striking and rich in cultural significance. I want people to appreciate the aesthetic design while also connecting with the historical narrative behind the weeping willow. This approach makes the space more than just a physical presence; it becomes an emotional and cultural experience.
